Failing? Or being Failed?

Failing? Or Being Failed?

Jenny Carter, 24 from London reads her speech Failing? Or being Failed?, on putting young people at the forefront of the decision making process when it comes to education.

Jenny is a member of our Young Leaders programme. The Almeida Young Leaders is a scheme giving young people with something vital to say the tools and platform to do so. Each young leader has been mentored by a writer and director to develop their ideas, structuring a speech and skills in public speaking.

About Jenny:

Jenny is passionate about mental health, well-being and resilience lessons being taught at schools. Schooling shouldn’t just be about just be about passing exams and league tables. She also loves campaigning, cats, coffee & Grime music.

She’s volunteered for charities including Young Women's Trust; MIND; and MQ: Transforming Mental Health – the first major mental health research charity.

She has future ambitions to set up a charity that provides early support for young people by providing a space to talk about how they feel before difficulties become bigger and more problematic. Jenny feels that mental health problems, family difficulties, anti-social behaviour could be reduced significantly if we paid more attention to supporting young people in a non-medical way before problems get to a clinical level, and in way that is open and available and really normalised for every child.
