What is Islam?
Ilhan Younis reads her speech What is Islam?, on the continuous prejudices against the Muslim community since 9/11.
Ilhan is a member of our Young Leaders programme. The Almeida Young Leaders is a scheme giving young people with something vital to say the tools and platform to do so. Each young leader has been mentored by a writer and director to develop their ideas, structuring a speech and skills in public speaking.
About Ilhan:
Ilhan is a passionate advocate, who has worked in a fight for better social housing, against Islamophobia, racism and other injustices. She joined a campaign with a group of close Muslim friends, where they met with the editor of The Sun newspaper to tackle the language which is used to describe Muslims in the media. Other work includes a feature in The Guardian where Ilhan talked about being a young person in south London and the social inequality she has faced growing up. Currently a student, Ilhan hopes to take up activism professionally once she graduates.
